Driver Choice nForce 2 and 3

Changing Microsoft's IDE Driver on nForce

If you want to subsequently change from the Microsoft Driver shown here
Microsoft IDE Driver
to the nForce IDE Driver you may end up with problems.

When you try to manually integrate Drivers, Windows XP will confront you with
the following error message: ''The Device can not be found'' ?
In the Device Manager nothing has changed. This seems to be impossible
at first glance.

I have been testing this for a considerable time and have found a solution which
is explained in the following steps illustrated with screenshots.
Its not easy, but it does work. [wink]

We will start with the Microsoft IDE Driver, to which I changed to for the short
term test:

Delete the Standard-Second Channel-PCI-IDE....., marked below.
Right click with the mouse and choose the Uninstall option.
Delete Standard-Second Channel-PCI-IDE

After a short time considering and deleting Windows will request a restart.
We will comply with this.
After restarting we should see that windows has recognised new hardware on a Plug
and Play basis and it will confront us with a message requesting another restart.
This time we will click on ''NO'' and stay away from the Windows level.
System PopUp ''No''

Now we will go back to the Control Panel / Device Manager and observe that with the
IDE entry something has changed. Instead of the previous 3 line entry there is now
only one and with them we are working now.
IDE driver changed

As before we click on ''Driver Update'' '

Now choose the option ''Don't search", choose the driver to install by self and
click next

Unclick the tick in the box ''Show compatible Hardware'' then click next

Navigate with Windows Explorer into the Nvidia Folder using Explorer and choose 'inf' as the
filetype. Select the file ''nvatabus'' and open it.

fter opening it a device will be suggested. We will accept this and click on next.
nForce 2 ATA Controller

The Assistant answers with the dialog shown below.
This one, we will now accept the prompt to restart and click on finish.

Windows XP displays a pop up window requesting a restart
and to this we will click on yes !

After the restart we will again take a quick look at the Device Manager in the
Control Panel and check the entry for the IDE Controller.
